The excellent guys at the shop I take my cruiser to (today on the menu was a Delica with a blown TD engine, a 76 wagon, a fully dressed 80 and 40) took the time to swap wheels and tires with my truck (with a mechanics personal 80) to find out if my vibration was tire related...on their own dime...and turns out that yes. Its the tires. So that’s good. Now for the bad news. The cost of 285/75r16 AT tires...

Are they damaged, over-worn or missing lumps of tread? If not I’d try some wheel balancing powder first, for the sake of a few dollars it might save a thousand.

Cupping badly. I was thinking about doing some Airsoft for balance.

Yeh anything like that. With 285/75 you don’t even need to worry about quantities, just throw a load in.

I was dreading having to deal with tires on with my commute, but I solved that problem by buying something that uses tires quicker...

Remove wheel weights or leave them?

Oh good question. I would suggest that if you do remove them, then you add at minimum the same weight of balancing compound into the tyre.

Cool, My brother has both a very accurate gram scale and a surplus of airsoft, I’ll be visiting him soon again.

Did they have any suggestions as to what caused it/why the tyres are like that?

Ok, hopefully it’s just that set then.

Any idea on what you would go for as a replacement if you can’t get those ones working?
